stunner - 1

FACT SHEET Salmon stunner Atlantic salmon, Pacific salmon, trout, yellowtail and most powerful fast swimming fish Our award-winning Ace in-water stunner technology • Stuns fish humanely - fish become unconscious immediately • Your first choice for animal welfare The award winning Ace Aquatec humane fish stunning system is the most effective and humane system available for stunning fish prior to slaughter. It can be installed on boats or rafts for dead haul harvesting and in land-based processing plants. Effective, safe, rapid and humane stunning is an essential component of responsible aquaculture. Salmonids are powerful fish that react strongly to being taken out of water. This results in stress and bruising. Salmon fighting to find water are also liable to jump off the slaughter table and fall heavily onto the floor, adding to losses and creating a poor impression for auditors. With this in mind, Ace Aquatec collaborated with scientists from the University of Bristol and the Silsoe Research Institute to develop the first in-water electrical system for stunning trout. It offered immediate, effective, humane and stress free stunning for fish of all sizes and was quickly adopted by the UK trout industry. Ten more years of further research and development has resulted in a stunning system for all salmonids that is universally recognised as the best on the market because of the gentle handling, high throughput, reliability and good operator environment that it offers. Salmon from well boats, pens or tanks are gently pumped to the Ace Stunner. They travel through a short tubular dewater allowing most of the pumped water to fall away and then without losing speed they slide directly into the stunner water where they immediately lose consciousness. The flow of water through the stunner is controlled by a dedicated water pump which ensures that the fish pass through the stunner in about 20 seconds. When fish leaving the stunner are bled promptly, they remain unconscious until death. Electrodes embedded into the interior of the stun tube pass an electrical current through the water and therefore through the fish in the water. The near perfect electrical contact between the fish and water guarantees that all fish regardless of size are stunned reliably and without pre-stun shocks. The electric field in the tube is designed so the fish lose consciousness immediately without any movement, struggle or suffering. The electrode configuration ensures that the high voltage power is confined to the centre of the tube with both ends being tied to earth potential. The electrical stunning current is developed by a dedicated PLC controlled power supply system with multiple continuous checks for safety and effectiveness. Remote access and continuous data logging allow adjustments to be made to the system remotely and operational data to be accessed for internal or external auditing. High carcass quality with long pre-rigor times and without internal haemorrhaging is assured by the careful design of the stun field and smooth flow of fish through the stunner. The stunner is designed to meet your needs and can use fresh water or salt water. The stun tube length is matched to your throughput requirements and can be straight or bent, floor mounted or wall mounted to suit the space available. Key features Capacity: Standard build capacity at 20 tons per hour. Higher capacity available through bespoke solution. • Suitable for salt and freshwater use • Install in factories, boats, containers • Ability to accommodate various fish delivery systems • Reduced handling and low stress • Automated system with clear touch screen controls, configurable settings • Data logging, secure remote adjustment, and monitoring possibilities • Bespoke builds available for fish species and sizes • Controllable, adjustable pump speeds and durations Ideal set up Suitable for use on harvest boats, outside processing plants and inside dedicated slaughter facilities.
