Loading the gun Instructions for loading the gun accompany each pack of the above products. Please ensure you read these prior to administration. When bolusing lambs extra care must be taken. Do Not force the applicator too far down the throat. There is a plastic sleeve that can be fitted around the barrel of the applicator as a guide when bolusing lambs. The tip of the nose (lamb) should touch the end of the plastic sleeve, this being a guide to ensure that the applicator is not inserted too far (see image of applicator above) 2. Bolusing sheep in a race Fill the race to its maximum capacity of sheep. Ensure that the heads of all animals in the race are up. 3. Stance for bolusing sheep in a race With the gun in your favoured hand, approach the first sheep from outside of the race. Standing with your knees facing the race side, make sure your knees are in line with the animal's neck and shoulder. Fig 1 O - Note position of the knees 4. Stance for bolusing sheep in a corner Position sheep in a corner of the pen to prevent the animal moving backwards. With the gun in your favoured hand, stand facing the sheep with your knees in line with the neck and just behind the shoulder. Press both knees into animal's side with free hand around back of the head and under the chin. © Fig 2 5. Inserting applicator into the mouth Hold the sheep's head with your free hand, with your palm under the chin pushing the head up to allow a straight neck for swallowing. At the same time, using your thumb and middle finger, gently initiate the mouth opening. The gun should then be carefully inserted from the front of the mouth, on top of the tongue, not underneath. 6. Application of the bolus Move the gun so it is in line with the midline of the mouth. © Fig 3 Gentle pressure should push the head of the gun to the back of the mouth, and onto the back of the tongue. Depress the applicator by squeezing hand to close the V. The bolus will be pushed out and over the bridge of the tongue. 7. Removing the applicator Carefully remove the applicator from the midline of the mouth. Fig 4 O Observe the animal for a short while to ensure the bolus has been swallowed - a loud swallowing sound should indicate successful application. If the bolus is regurgitated or spat out, dispose of the bolus and repeat the process carefully following these instructions. TAKE CARE, TAKE TIME.
