Power & Communications Module (PCM)

Power & Communications Module (PCM)

Product catalog summary
Product Description
The Power & Communications Module (PCM) is a sealed interface module connecting the autopilot with other UAV systems. It includes servos power management, data link, and an engine monitor (only in PCM0X-S version).
Servos Power Management
The PCM provides up to 12A at a factory preset voltage for servos or onboard electronics through six Binder 702 Subminiature M9 – 3 pin connectors (IP-67 rated).
Data Link
The PCM integrates a data link for communication between the autopilot and the ground station, with three configuration options:
  • PCM 01 – Data Transmission: Baud rate of 115.2 Kb/s (full duplex), range of 100 km, frequency of 902 - 928 MHz, using Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum.
  • PCM 02 – Data and Video Transmission: Configurable frequency ranges (2.304-2.364 GHz, 2.405-2.470 GHz, or 5.000-5.800 GHz), throughput up to 12 Mbps, serial baud rate from 300bps to 921kbps, output power up to 1W (adjustable), Ethernet 10/100 BaseT, Auto - MDI/X IEEE 802.3, using COFDM.
  • PCM 03 – Data and Video Transmission: Up to 2W transmission power and encryption option, available only for governmental users under export license.
Engine Monitor
The Engine Monitor (EM) provides 5Hz samples of RPMs, ambient temperature, cylinder head temperature (CHT), exhaust gas temperature (EGT), fuel quantity, and total engine-on time. It supports various sensor types and configurations, including optocoupler, hall effect, and inductive pickups for RPM measurement, and thermistor or thermocouple sensors for CHT.
EM Technical Specifications
  • Sensors: RPM sensors (optocoupler, hall, or inductive), CHT sensors (thermistor or thermocouple), EGT sensors (thermocouple), fuel quantity sensor (discrete), engine total time counter (0 to 1 million hours).
  • Ranges: RPM range from 250 to 50,000 RPMs with varying resolution, thermocouple sensitivity of 8 uV, resistive sensor ranges from 0 to 2.95 K Ohm, capacitive sensor ranges from 50 pF to 100 nF.
  • Communications: Port 1 RS-232 at 38400 baud, Port 2 CAN at 100 kB/s, sample rate of 5 Hz.

Power & Communications Module (PCM)-2

Up to 2W transmission power and encryption option: Only for governmental users and under export license. Engine Monitor: The EM can provide any EFIS, autopilot or onboard electronics with 5Hz samples of RPMs, ambient temperature, one cylinder head temperatures (CHT), one exhaust gas temperatures (EGT), one fuel quantity, and total engine-on time. RPM measurement can be done using optocoupler sensors, hall effect sensors, and inductive pickups. A programmable scaling range allows for multiple pickup pulses per revolution. Using 6-point characterization curves, the EM can accept the widest variety...
