EVERY GREAT STORY HAS TO START SOMEWHERE, AND OURS BEGAN IN 1937. IT’S A STORY OF GRIT AND DETERMINATION ROOTED IN FAMILY HERITAGE AND CHRISTIAN FAITH THAT LED ONE SMALL FARM TO BECOME A MAJOR FORCE IN U.S. AGRICULTURE. BUT LIKE ANY STORY, A LOT HAD TO HAPPEN TO GET US HERE. In 1901, Lawrence and Anna Beck purchased 80 acres of land near the small town of Atlanta, Indiana. Over the next 20 years, they worked to raise their two children, Dorthia and Francis, and build their farm while enduring the First World War and the Great Depression. Then, in 1937, there was the historic moment when Lawrence...

WE’VE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN STANDING BEHIND OUR PRODUCTS, AND STILL TO THIS DAY, NO ONE ELSE IN THE INDUSTRY CONSISTENTLY PROVIDES THAT LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE OR PEACE OF MIND. Since the beginning, we’ve been committed to putting the needs of farmers first, which is why we started programs such as our 100% Free Replant Policy. If there is a need to replant a field of corn, soybeans, wheat or elite alfalfa, as determined by a Beck’s representative, we will furnish the seed and royalties free of charge. We’ve always believed in standing behind our products, and still to this day, no one else in the industry...

IT’S NEVER BEEN ABOUT PROFITS OR ECONOMIES OF SCALE; IT’S ABOUT HELPING FARMERS MAXIMIZE YIELD ON EVERY SINGLE ACRE. It wasn't until the 1950s that we decided to expand our business from Indiana-certified corn hybrids to include soybean and wheat seed. It was also at this time that we began to develop our own private hybrids in an effort to provide farmers with more hybrid varieties. By adding new seed lines and carrying out behind-the-scenes research, we were able to provide farmers with the choices they needed to succeed. Then, in 1992, we started leveraging our position in the marketplace,...

REGIONAL TESTING: This map shows that the green hybrid won more plots across the country, yet in the highlighted area, the red hybrid showed better results. Therefore, Beck's would identify the red hybrid as a leading product in that region. Our philosophy is to promote the hybrid that performs the best in a small geography versus a hybrid that's adequate in a larger geography. CONTROLLING GLYPHOSATE RESISTANT WEEDS When it comes to protecting yield in today's farming environment, quality products are of utmost importance in the face of resistant weeds. For years we've relied on the use of glyphosate...

FARMER FOCUSED WHATEVER YOU MEASURE TENDS TO IMPROVE. ONLY BY WATCHING THE NUMBERS CAN YOU TELL WHICH OF YOUR INNOVATIONS AMOUNT TO IMPROVEMENT AND WHICH ONES DON’T. RESEARCH PRACTICAL FARM RESEARCH Farming isn't just about planting seed or raising a crop. It's about measuring what you do, learning from your experience, and then doing something different to improve your operation. While quality products serve as the foundation to maximizing yield, there are many other variables and management practices that could affect it. In 1964, we set into motion one of Beck's greatest assets to date — Beck's...
