2019 Alfalfa-Silage Product Guide

2019 Alfalfa-Silage Product Guide

2019 Alfalfa-Silage Product Guide

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document is a comprehensive guide on alfalfa and corn silage varieties, detailing their characteristics, performance metrics, and purchasing policies. It includes data on yield, disease resistance, and forage quality, along with ordering guidelines and discounts.
Alfalfa Varieties:
  • ARMOUR RR: High yield and forage quality, resistant to Aphanomyces Race 1 and 2, suitable for all soils, and offers excellent weed control.
  • CAVALRYDQ: High yield potential and superior forage quality, comparable to non-GMO reduced lignin alfalfas.
  • ENFORCEHT: Known for high-ton genetics, superior stand persistence, and fast recovery post-harvest.
  • FIERCE: High yield with excellent disease resistance and stand persistence, suitable for tough soils.
  • LEAFGUARD II: Provides leafhopper protection, dark green, fine-stemmed, and highly palatable.
Performance Metrics: Metrics such as Fall Dormancy, Winterhardiness, and Disease Resistance are detailed. Tables compare varieties based on NDFD, Tons/Acre, Lignin, RFQ, Milk/Ton, and Milk/Acre.
Purchasing Policies: Early order and cash discounts are available with specific timelines. Special orders are C.O.D and non-returnable, with outlined return policies. A replant policy offers free seed for replanting during stand establishment.
Corn Silage Varieties: Descriptions of corn silage products highlight maturity, digestibility, starch content, and yield potential. Performance data from third-party plots in multiple states compare yield, moisture, protein, NDF, starch, and milk production metrics.
Regulatory and Stewardship Information: Guidelines on the export and planting of biotech traits emphasize compliance with laws. Information on Excellence Through Stewardship® and biotechnology-derived plant product policies is included.
Digestible Fiber (NDFD): Higher NDFD indicates more digestible fiber and greater available energy, with a 1-point increase potentially resulting in an additional 0.55 pounds of milk per cow per day.
Crude Protein (CP): Crude protein includes true protein and non-protein nitrogen, essential for maintenance, lactation, growth, and reproduction. Proteins are categorized based on their breakdown rate in the rumen.
Milk/Acre: Projects potential milk yield per acre, calculated based on milk pounds per ton and forage tonnage per acre.
Milk/Ton: Estimates potential milk yield per ton of silage dry matter, considering digestibility and energy content.
Tons: Refers to projected forage weight (adjusted to 65% moisture) produced per acre.

Milk (lb.)/Acre Silage Rating - Silage ratings are based on a combination of Beck's testing, digestibility, tonnage and starch. Starch - Starch is a good source of energy derived from the grain. Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) - A measure of hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin representing the fibrous bulk of the forage. Hemicellulose and cellulose can be broken down by microbes in the rumen to provide energy to the animal. Forages with higher NDF will take longer to digest and therefore reduce intake. Neutral Detergent Fiber Digestibility (NDFD) - A measure of how much of the NDF is digestible...
