Overview: LEAFGUARD XL is a high-yielding, no-spray alfalfa variety with enhanced protection against leafhoppers. It features dark green, fine stems and is highly palatable. The variety is coated with Apex™ Green Seed Coating, suitable for organic transition acres, subject to certification.

Disease Resistance: LEAFGUARD XL is highly resistant (HR) to several diseases, including Anthracnose, Aphanomyces Race 1, Bacterial Wilt, Fusarium Wilt, Phytophthora, Verticillium Wilt, and Potato Leafhopper.
Testing Results: In trials conducted in Evansville, WI, LEAFGUARD XL demonstrated superior performance with a total dry matter yield of 6.33 tons per acre, outperforming other varieties such as LeafGuard II and WL 358LH. The trials had a mean yield of 5.74 tons per acre, with a least significant difference (LSD) of 0.37 at the 0.05 level and 0.53 at the 0.01 level, and a coefficient of variation (CV) of 4.02%.
Comparison: LEAFGUARD XL outperformed other varieties in RFQ (Relative Forage Quality) comparison, with a score of 210, compared to LeafGuard II (197), Hi-Gest 360 (194), and D.L. 3420 (188).
Additional Information: All elite alfalfa varieties, except LEAFGUARD XL, are treated with Beck’s Escalate® yield enhancement system, which includes HydroLocQS Plus micronutrient package, a biological, and fungicides Apron XL® LS and Stamina®.
