Legal aspects Since 2018, only winter tires with the tire sidewall marking Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake (3PMSF) are permitted on road traffic in the event of black ice, slush, icy conditions, slippery frost and packed snow according to §2 StVO (German Road Traffic Act). However, this obligation is not compatible with regulation 117 of UN/ECE*which says: According to this regulation, the 3PMSF symbol may not be used together with a Professional off-Road (POR) inscription which is binding for MPT tires.
