Product catalog summary
Introduction
Determining the quality of colostrum is crucial in colostrum feeding management. Accurate measurement is essential for effective management.

Procedure for Using a Digital Refractometer
1. Dip the silver tip of a clean refractometer into the colostrum and stir.
2. Press the start button.
3. Results will appear on the digital screen within three seconds.
The refractometer provides readings in the Brix scale, which can be converted to IgG values using a provided chart. The device is not sensitive to colostrum temperature, allowing immediate testing after collection.

Colostrum Quality Interpretation
The Brix scale readings are used to determine the quality of colostrum:
  • Poor Quality: Less than 15 grams IgG/Qt (Brix scale below 19.0) - Do not use.
  • Average Quality: Suitable for bull calves.
  • Good Quality: Suitable for heifer calves.

Key Data from the Chart
The chart provides a detailed conversion from Brix scale readings to IgG values, indicating the quality of colostrum. For example, a Brix reading of 19.0 corresponds to 15 grams IgG/Qt, which is considered inadequate, while a reading of 27.0 corresponds to 96 grams IgG/Qt, indicating good quality.
