Responsible management with a precious raw material About 90 % of the German peat reserves are to be found in Lower Saxony, the home of Floragard. Intact peatland areas are under strict nature conservation. They are not allowed to be drained or to be used for peat harvesting. Only those areas are available for peat extraction which have been drained decades ago for settlement and which were used for agricultural purposes as grassland or cropland.
