Comparison of slurry spreaders

Product catalog summary
Introduction
This document presents a comparison of ammonia (NH3) emissions from different slurry spreading techniques, specifically focusing on the swivelling spreader developed by Möscha GbR. The measurements were conducted on two separate dates, 18.05.2016 and 02.06.2016, under varying environmental conditions.

Test Setup and Methodology
Measurements were taken using buckets with sharp edges, inserted into the ground to ensure tightness. The NH3 concentration was measured at different times after slurry application, both directly in the air and within the buckets. The measurement range was 0-100 ppm with an accuracy of +/- 1 ppm.

Results
  • Test #1 (Oberroth, 18.05.2016): Swivelling spreader showed 8 ppm NH3 emissions, while the splash plate recorded 16 ppm.
  • Test #2 (Huber GbR, 02.06.2016): Swivelling spreader emissions were 2 ppm, 27 ppm, and 22 ppm across different measurements, whereas the splash plate showed higher emissions at 4 ppm, 41 ppm, and 41 ppm. Dribble bar and trailing shoe spreaders showed lower emissions, with trailing shoe consistently at 18 ppm.

Conclusion
The swivelling spreader generally resulted in lower NH3 emissions compared to the splash plate, approximately by a factor of two. However, there was no significant difference between the swivelling spreader and dribble hose spreaders, indicating the need for further measurements.

Recommendations
Future tests should use four buckets per spreader to identify errors, ensure buckets are weighted to prevent movement, and continuously monitor environmental conditions. Video recordings should accompany measurements to accurately document data and identify potential errors.

However, there was a potential source of error: no weights on the buckets  shaking?...

NH3 emissions: Comparison of swivelling spreader and other slurry spreading techniques. Measurments by Möscha GbR, maker of swivelling spreaders. Date: 02.06.2016. Slide: 14 Recommendation for upcoming tests • For the investigation of each spreader, 4 buckets should be used. This enables to identify different kinds of errors (e.g. no tightness, location of measurement not representative). All buckets with unique ID, clearly marked, each bucket position documented in plan and by photo. • All buckets beaten with a hammer into the ground, and then fixed there by an additional weight of at least...
