SW5637S - 1

FD5 Alfalfa | High-yielding | Salt Tolerant SW5637S is a high-yielding, fall dormant variety, bred in saline growing conditions and selected for the ability to maintain improved production of hay in saline soils. Relative Feed Quality (RFQ) is above average, 102% of the mean versus RFQ of elite check varieties. SW5637S demonstrates very good yield retention in moderate Agronomic Traits • DRI Score: 33 • Fall Dormancy: 5 • Yield Score: 8 • Winter Hardiness: Winterhardy Key Advantages • Adapted to the Western half of the US fall-dormant growing areas with salinity challenges in soil or irrigation water • Highly suitable for growing areas that obtain 4-5 cuts per growing season • Suitable for saline soils where irrigation water and/or soil contains salts of moderate to strongly saline salinity classes • Maintains good yield in saline growing conditions, of high quality and quantity of hay or haylage HR = High Resistance R = Resistant MR = Moderate Resistance LR = Low Resistance to strong saline growing conditions. Forage production yield under salt stress as a percent of yield with no salt stress.* COMPETITOR YIELD % TYPE OF VARIETY SW5637S 100% Equal or better than Salt-tolerant Check Variety ALFALFA PARTNERS AZ-90NDC-ST 85% Salt-tolerant Standard Check Variety AZ-88NDC 69% Non Salt-tolerant Standard Check Variety This brochure is for your information only. Saline/Sodic Soil - Saline soils have a high content of soluble salts that negatively affect plant productivity and overall soil health. As sodium (Na+) predominates, saline soils can become sodic. Sodic soils present particular challenges because they tend to have poor structure, preventing water infiltration and drainage. The Standard Test for alfalfa salinity tolerance measures mean plant yield in non-saline growing conditions, versus growth under strongly saline conditions. It should be noted that SW5637S is unlikely to achieve the same yield under salt stress as obtained in similar growing environments without salt stress, but the test results show good overall salt tolerance for the variety. *Trial as prescribed by: National Alfalfa Improvement Council, Standard Tests to Characterize Stress, Forage Production Under Salt Stress, Dr. S
