Product catalog summary

Overview

This document provides detailed specifications and compatibility information for a range of bale handling machines and accessories, including various models and mounting options. It is structured to assist in selecting appropriate machine heads, bodies, and extras for bale handling equipment.

Sections and Content Summary

1. Equipment Selection

The document begins with a selection guide for choosing the machine head, body, and extras. It lists compatible telehandlers and loaders such as Bobcat Telehandler, Caterpillar models (TH62, TH337, AG2000), Claas Scorpion, Dieci, JCB variants, JLG-Deutz, Kramer, Manitou, Merlo, Schaffer, Volvo, and others. Various mounting options like 3 Point Link, A Frame, Chilton, Euro 8, Eurohook, Skid Steer, Quicke No 3, Tanco, and Trima are also mentioned.

2. Machine Ranges and Models

The document details two main product ranges: the NEW Lite-Range and the NEW M-Range. These ranges include multiple models such as MICRO-LITE, MINI-LITE, MIDI-LITE, COMBI-BALE, MINI SUPER, MINI MIDI, MIDI XL, MAXI, and MAXI XL. Each model is available in different configurations indicated by codes like 2VR, HR, and ST.

3. Technical Specifications

All measurements are provided in metres or kilograms. Key parameters for each model include:

  • Machine Width: Ranges approximately from 1.735m to 1.780m for rear-mounted models and wider for single side-mounted versions.
  • Machine Length: Varies from about 2.5m to over 4.2m depending on the model and mounting.
  • Machine Head Height and Bale Guard Height: Typically around 1.15m to 1.5m.
  • Machine Body Length: Between 2.05m and 3.43m.
  • Raised Head Height: Ranges from approximately 2.45m to 2.9m.
  • Maximum Bale Dimensions: Width up to 1.2m, length up to 2.8m, height up to 1.3m, and diameter up to 1.8m depending on model.
  • Machine Weight: From around 634 kg to 1,180 kg for rear-mounted models; single side-mounted models are heavier.
  • Maximum Bale Weight: Between 176 kg and 600 kg depending on model.
  • Combined Machine and Bale Weight: Up to approximately 1,780 kg for rear-mounted and up to 2,080 kg for single side-mounted models.
  • Minimum Loader Lift Capacity: Ranges from 1,000 kg to 3,500 kg depending on the model.

4. Mounting Options

The document distinguishes between two mounting types:

  • Standard Rear Mounted: Most models are available in this configuration with detailed dimensions and weights.
  • Single Side Mounted: Available for selected models with generally larger widths and weights; some data is marked as not available (NA).

5. Compatibility and Usage Recommendations

The specifications include minimum loader lift capacities required for each model, ensuring compatibility with various telehandlers and loaders. The maximum bale sizes and weights indicate the handling capacity, guiding users to select machines suitable for their bale dimensions and weights.

Critical Information and Best Practices

  • Ensure the loader's lift capacity meets or exceeds the minimum specified for the chosen machine model.
  • Match the machine dimensions and bale size limits to the operational requirements to avoid overloading or incompatibility.
  • Consider mounting type based on the loader and operational environment; rear-mounted models are more common, while single side-mounted options offer alternative configurations.
  • Check machine and combined weights for transport and handling safety.

Summary

This document serves as a comprehensive technical reference for selecting and specifying bale handling machines across a range of models and mounting options. It provides essential dimensional, weight, and compatibility data to ensure proper machine selection and safe operation.

“As we celebrate 25 years of Spread-a-Bale, I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come—from an idea on my Cheshire dairy farm to a product trusted by customers around the world. Since those early days, we’ve continued to listen, improve and evolve—developing a range of machines that can be configured to suit farms and businesses of all sizes, across many different sectors, and increasingly beyond agriculture too. I’m grateful to everyone who has been part of this...

AN INNOVATE UK FUNDED INDEPENDENT ON-FARM TRIAL - 2025 This trial compared straw spreading using a Spread-a-Bale Maxi ST against a trailed turbine straw processor. The findings show that Spread-a-Bale generates significantly less airborne dust and lower noise levels, helping to improve working conditions and animal welfare in livestock buildings. Peak dust levels when spreading straw with Spread-a-Bale reached 3.7milligram$ per cubic metre (mg/ m3). The turbine processor reached just under 7mg/ m3, which was at the upper limit of the dust sensor, meaning the true peak may have been higher. This...

The Avian Deflector is designed to enhance straw spread width whilst reducing bedding depth to provide a more even, thinner distribution over a wider area for the poultry sector - ideal for quick, consistent shed coverage, Spread-a-Bale machines gently tease the bale apart and distribute it with minimum dust generation, helping maintain better air quality for the birds and farmers compared with more aggressive chopping/blowing systems. Our machines also run quieter than high-velocity alternatives - reported at 20% less noise when compared to a turbine spreader. Bedding can be refreshed with minimal...

30% STRAW SAVING & BEDDING THAT LASTS LONGER Since changing to Spread-a-Bale, we estimate we’re saving around 30% on straw compared to the chopper blower. We’re also getting fluffier, better bedding because the straw isn’t chopped, and it lasts longer. We used to bed down 3-4 times a week, but now we only need to twice a week, which makes a big difference to both cost and workload. Before we bought the Spread-a-Bale, our vet advised our livestock were showing definite signs of lung damage from the dust generated by the chopper blower. The dust was horrendous — we often had to put the cattle out...

Aled Vaughan, Pembrokeshire, farms a 450 cow pedigree Holstein herd in a family partnership HOW SPREAD-A-BALE CUT BEDDING TIME FROM TWO HOURS TO 40 MINUTES, WHILST SAVING 25% STRAW. This spring we traded in our Spread-a-Bale Midi for two new STs (Side Throws), one to work on each of the two units we farm in Pembrokeshire; it was a decision that says it all about the machine in terms of improving our efficiency. We’ve 200 head of cattle housed 365 that require bedding up with straw every other day. Since deciding to go from manual to mechanising straw spreading with a Midi machine four years ago,...
