The edger line is designed to be operated by a single operator, including waste handling. The control system, provided by Schneider Electrics, offers two operational modes:
- Quality Mode: This mode focuses on producing timber without knots or defects by utilizing a laser designator. It enhances product quality by separating high-quality products from medium-quality ones.
- Program Mode: This mode aims to optimize board width for maximum yield. After alignment, the operator uses a laser designator to mark the board's second edge, allowing the PLC to calculate the optimal sawing program for blade positioning.
The layout includes a conveyor with a cant turning device, and configurations can be customized based on customer needs. Key components include:
- Alignment Conveyor with laser designator
- Chipping Canter (options for fixed and moveable heads)
- Parallel board edger with over 50 possible configurations
- Automatic slab separator
- Singulation conveyor
Configurations are available with or without a chipping canter and can include a wide fixed bush. The system has been in operation since 1954, indicating a long-standing presence in the industry.

EDGER LINE CONFIGURATIONS : Example of Edger Line : WITHOUT CHIPPING CANTER: WITH CHIPPING CANTER: 1 6 4 WITH WIDE FIXED BUSH: 2 According to the customer’s needs/requests, It is possible to customize the configuration of the Edger Line. COMPLETE EDGER LINE LAY OUT: 1 Conveyor with cant turning device. OPTIMIZATION SYSTEM : Only one operator is required for all operation of the edger line including waste handling. Two modes proposed in the control system (Schneider electrics): - Quality Mode : In order to have Timbers without knots / defects, this mode allows to separate the quality of the products by using laser designator mode (instead of having all the products of medium quality, this mode allows you to value the quality of the products). - Program Mode : This mode optimizes the width of the board to have the best yield. After the alignment, the operator marks the second edge of the board with the laser designator, then the PLC calculates the best sawing program for the positioning of the moving blades. QUALITY MODE Alignment Conveyor with laser designator. Chipping Canter (1 fix and 1 moveable head or 2 moveable heads). Parallel board edger (more than 50 possible configurations).
