Product catalog summary
Overview: The WIKA diaphragm pressure switch is engineered for safety-critical applications in the process industry, functioning without a supply voltage and housed in a robust stainless steel 316L enclosure capable of withstanding conditions up to 600 bar. It includes 1 or 2 microswitches for electrical loads up to AC 250 V, 20 A, with options for lower power ratings using gold-plated contacts.
Applications: This switch is ideal for pressure monitoring and control in sectors such as chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, power generation, and water/wastewater, handling gaseous, liquid, aggressive, and viscous media.
Special Features: Available in SIL 2 or SIL 3 versions, the switch offers setting ranges from 16 mbar to 600 bar, intrinsic safety (Ex ia), and high switching power, with a switch point repeatability of less than 1%.
Specifications: The switch is adaptable for hazardous areas, oxygen applications, and high humidity environments, with options for diaphragm seal systems and additional protection using materials like PTFE, Monel, or Hastelloy.
Contact Versions: Options include SPDT and DPDT configurations with fixed or adjustable dead bands, suitable for Ex ia applications.
Sensor Elements: Diaphragm elements are made from materials such as stainless steel, PTFE, and Monel, suitable for temperatures from -30 to +85 °C.
Accuracy: Set point repeatability is ≤ 1% of the span, with dead bands varying by setting range.
Process Connection: Standard connections include ANSI/ASME, DIN, and EN flanges, with various thread options.
Electrical Connection: Includes various thread types and cable glands, with specific wire cross-sections for terminal blocks.
Operating Conditions: Operates in ambient temperatures from -60 to +85 °C, with IP66 ingress protection.
Approvals: Complies with EU directives, including PED and RoHS, with optional approvals for ATEX, IECEx, UKCA, and other regions.
Specifications and Certifications: The document details specifications for hazardous areas in China, South Korea, and the UAE, emphasizing double marking with ATEX and IECEx. It includes SIL 3 capability and functional safety per IEC 61508, with certificates like 2.2 test reports and 3.1 inspection certificates per EN 10204, recommending a one-year calibration interval.
Safety-Related Characteristics: For Ex versions, safety values include a voltage of DC 30 V, current of 100 mA, power of 750 mW, and effective internal capacitance and inductance of 0 μF and 0 mH, compliant with SIL3, IEC 61508, and IEC 61511 standards.
Dimensions and Mounting: Dimensions are provided in millimeters and inches, with permissible mounting positions for models MWB, MW, MWG, and MWH, detailing process and electrical connections.
Flange Connections: Details on flange connections per ASME B 16.5 and EN 1092-1 are provided, including dimensions and material specifications for stud bolts and nuts, noting that the maximum pressure limitation is the lower value between proof pressure and flange pressure rating.
Accessories and Spare Parts: Lists accessories and spare parts such as syphons, overpressure protectors, needle valves, block-and-bleed valves, monoflanges, and ball valves, with references to corresponding data sheets.
Ordering Information: Guidelines include specifying the model, unit, setting range of set point, contact version, process connection, electrical connection, wetted parts, and options.

Diaphragm pressure switch For the process industry Model MW WIKA data sheet PV 31.10 for further approvals, see page 6 Process Performance Series ■ Pressure monitoring and control of processes ■ Safety-critical applications in general process instrumen- tation, especially in the chemical and petrochemical industries, oil and gas industries, power generation incl. nuclear power plants, water/wastewater industries, mining ■ For gaseous and liquid, aggressive and highly viscous or contaminated media, also in aggressive environments Special features ■ Case from 316L, IP66, NEMA 4X ■ Setting ranges from 16 mbar to 600 bar, also all other equivalent vacuum or combined pressure and vacuum ranges ■ Intrinsic safety Ex ia available ■ 1 or 2 independent switch points, high switching power up to AC 250 V, 20 A ■ Switch point repeatability < 1 % Fig. left: Model MW with threaded connection Fig. right: Model MW with flange connection Description These high-quality mechanical pressure switches have been developed especially for safety-critical applications. The great advantage of mechanical pressure switches is that no supply voltage is required for the switching process. Depending on the application, the appropriate variant for the contact version and the electrical connection can be selected; e.g. adjustable dead band instead of fixed dead band is often a feature necessary for control processes. In production, the switches are traced by quality assurance software at every step and subsequently are 100 % tested. The robust switch enclosure from stainless steel 316L can withstand the rough and corrosive operating conditions of the process industry with working ranges of up to 600 bar. The pressure switch is fitted with 1 or 2 microswitches, which make it possible to switch an electrical load of up to AC 250 V, 20 A directly. By using a diaphragm measuring system, the model MW pressure switch is extremely robust and guarantees optimal operating characteristics. Flanged process connections are excellently suited for measuring highly viscous, contaminated or crystallising media. For lower switching power ratings, such as for PLC applications, argon gas-filled microswitches with gold-plated contacts are available.
