Sand Media Filtration

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Yardney has been a pioneer in sand media filtration since 1965, offering high-performance solutions for challenging dirty water conditions in irrigation. Their filters are manufactured in the USA to stringent standards, ensuring durability and long-term value.

Applications
The filters are designed to remove organic contaminants like algae and slime, as well as inorganic materials such as sand and grit. They protect drip and micro-irrigation systems from clogging, with fine filtration capabilities down to 200 mesh or 75 microns.

Advantages
  • ASME code shaped head construction for enhanced durability and safety.
  • Standard material thickness: Carbon steel (3/16") and Stainless steel (10 gauge).
  • Standard operating pressure of 80 psi, with high-pressure systems available.
  • Automatic or manual backwash initiation.
  • Easy-entry lid closure with weld tabs for operator safety.
  • UV stabilized polyester powder coat on carbon steel tanks for extended product life.
  • Removable stainless steel wedgewire underdrain for structural integrity and effective backwash.
  • Drain ports vary by tank size, facilitating access and efficient draining.

Features
  • High strength stainless steel wedgewire underdrain with collapse resistance over 600 psi.
  • Optional removable underdrain system for ease of media changes.
  • Patented cast-iron backwash valve with low pressure drop and field serviceability.
  • Inlet and two-stage deflector plate for uniform water distribution.

Tank Options
Yardney offers various models with different specifications, including carbon and stainless steel options, different drain port sizes, and optional cross flow underdrains. Each model is designed to meet specific filtration needs and pressure requirements.

Filtration and Backwash Process
  • Contaminated water enters through the inlet manifold, passing through a 3-way valve into the tank.
  • A two-stage deflector ensures uniform flow across the media bed, trapping particulates.
  • Backwash is initiated manually or automatically, reversing flow to lift the media bed and release trapped particulates.
  • Each vessel is backwashed individually while the system continues to process water.

Specifications
The document provides detailed specifications for various models, including flow ranges, filtration surface area, backwash flow rate, media requirements, and pressure ratings.
